I wanted to write something soothing for us today. I wanted to let you know it is going to be alright. I wanted you to believe in all that is good. So, I found something that gave me hope.
Aum asato mā sadgamaya
Tamaso mājyotir gamaya
Mṛtyormā’mṛtaṁgamaya
Aum śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ
Lead us from the unreal to the real
Lead us from darkness to light
Lead us from death to immortality
Aum peace, peace, peace!
I end my yoga classes with the Sanskrit chant of three words in the last sentence. After practice, it is remarkable how the vibrational energy of these words grounds me when sung as a call and response. The willingness to share this intention in a room on a yoga mat with friends and strangers gives me hope for what can be brought out of the studio into the world.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
- Margaret Mead
Peace.
Peace.
Peace.
